Here is a really great playing and sounding vintage Gibson acoustic. Gibson changed some of the specs in 1949 and this shows some of those and some of the earlier ones to, so we believe that it’s from early 1949. The factory order number is 4049. We made a new bone bridge saddle and took care of a small split in the bridge at the pin holes. The tuner buttons have likely been replaced at one time. The G string tuner is slightly bent, but works as it should. As you can see, in it’s life, “GENE” was taped to the top of the guitar. The rest of the guitar aged and now there is a lighter tone “GENE” on the top, which of course, doesn’t affect the tone or playability of this fine instrument. It is in very good overall condition, with normal wear and finish checking and comes with a Gibson hard shell case, which may have been for an archtop, but is certainly from the correct period.
Built in Kalamazoo, Michigan c.1949
Solid spruce top
Solid mahogany back and sides
Rosewood straight bridge (‘Belly’ bridges started later in 1949)
Period hard shell case
