Description

A fun mandolin! Gibson produced their A-40 mandolin from 1948-1970. This is an earlier one, from 1953. The mandolin produces a crisp, bright tone and plays easily with correct action. Weather checking is common on all Gibson instruments from this era, which this one has pretty much all over. There are a couple of marks on the top and otherwise just has very faint play wear. The pickguard was removed and is in the case. It is a little warped, like they all are. The bridge leans towards the neck. It seems stable and has been this way for some time. The frets are in great shape and have certainly had work done at some point. This instrument is in very good condition and comes with it’s original chip case (inner compartment lid is deattached both hinges are torn, but working. This is a nice and solid mandolin, ready for another 73 years!!!
