Music Folk is committed to providing you quality instruction at a reasonable cost. We have many excellent instructors on our staff, and we are pleased to offer private lessons on the following instruments:
Banjo (Clawhammer and Bluegrass)
Bass Guitar
Dobro
Guitar (Acoustic, Electric, Classical)
Hammered Dulcimer
Mandolin
Mountain Dulcimer
Ukulele
Violin/Fiddle/Viola (we don’t have a fiddle teacher at this time)
On an occasional basis, we offer instruction on other instruments as well. Please call and inquire. Our teachers offer lessons in various guitar styles such as folk, blues, classical, old timey, rock, and bluegrass.
Lessons are taught at the store in our teaching studios downstairs. The studios can be accessed from the stairs in the back of the store, or through an entrance from our back parking lot. Parking is also available in various public lots within easy walking distance of our store.
Students can sign up for one half-hour lesson per week. The lesson fee is $25 per lesson. Lessons must be paid a month at a time and are payable at the first lesson of the month. Failing to pay for lessons on this schedule may result in losing the lesson slot. We do this to insure a reasonable level of earnings for our teachers and to reduce no-shows.
Most of our instructors teach during the afternoons and evenings Monday through Thursday. You will need to bring your own instrument to your lessons. If needed, rentals are available for most of the above-mentioned instruments. Some of our teachers may require that you purchase specific books, music or notebooks. If so, they will let you know.
When you sign up for a lesson, we reserve that time for you each week. If a cancellation is necessary, we require a 24 hour notice to the store, or you will be charged for the lesson. Only ONE cancellation is allowed each month. Remember: reserving a lesson time is a shared responsibility! Our teachers reserve a time for you, we ask that you please be considerate of their time.
Music Folk occasionally has opportunities for group instruction for students. Be sure to check the events calendar for information about these opportunities.
If you need additional information, please feel free to stop by & speak with our staff or give us a call at 314-961-2838. We’re happy to answer all of your questions.
