Description

An amazing banjo! This one started out in 1927 as a 4-string plectrum banjo. An Ed Fuchs conversion 5-string neck is on it now, making this an amazing bluegrass machine! It has the tone, projection and playability you expect. A remarkable banjo. Fret spike capos are installed at the 7th, 9th and 10th frets. There is some wear to it over the years. The arm rest’s plating is worn, the rest of the metal parts show normal age. The head has some wear. The resonator has an edge that is a little pushed in under the armrest, it looks like glue had been worked in the binding gap. The original tailpiece is still there. To accommodate the extra string a hole was drilled in it and the string loop needs to double on one of the 4 posts. The new neck has some finish wear on the back and it’s headstock face has checking and some of the gold flake has come off. Archtop tone ring. A compensated bridge is on this. A really great, mostly original, pre-war Gibson (Neck, 5th string tuner, bridge, spike capos, head are not original. The rim and resonator numbers match on it, but the one on the resonator has been modified Original tailpiece has been modified with marker(?).)!!!  This awesome banjo is in very good condition and comes with a vintage hard case, possibly original.
