Description
Liberty banjos were initially made by Joseph Pacheco and later by a company called Liberty Musical Instrument Co. in Chicago, which also manufactured drum and banjo heads. The company was known for high-quality banjos and parts, and Bob Flesher, a co-founder, went on to create his own custom-built and presentation-style instruments after Liberty’s time. Liberty was only around from 1926-1927. This one has it’s stick stamped with Joeseph’s name. In 1927, Liberty was purchased by Slingerland, who used the remaining parts on their May Bell banjos until they ran out. This banjo plays and sounds great! We did some setup work to it and restrung it, getting it ready for you. The banjo itself is in really great condition. It has some buckle rash on it’s mahogany resonator, a worn thumb mark in the finish on the back of the neck, some chips and scratches are on the headstock by the tuners. There is some light tarnish/pitting to the metal parts. The inlays have shrunk some and one has a piece missing. The friction tuners are working well, one tuner has been replaced. Just a slight hint of relief to the neck. This great playing and sounding banjo is in very good condition and it comes with what is likely it’s original hard case.
