Description
A very cool openback banjo, made in Chicago by Lyon and Healy, somewhere around the turn of the last century. We put on a new head, bridge and strings and did some setup to it. We also put small shims by the dowel, where it goes into the rim and between the fingerboard/neck and the rim. The banjo plays nicely and sounds pretty good. It doesn’t have a tone ring, but this is a “clad over” type banjo, where the rim is covered on the outside and both edges are rolled. The edge that is under the head acts like a tone ring. The fingerboard is remarkably thin and has been worn thru with play in the first position. The metal parts have normal tarnish and pitting. The tailpiece was gold plated at one point, most of the plating has worn off. The cool early plastic friction tuners all hold tune well. The banjo has typical scratches, small dings, etc., that you would expect to see on a banjo of this vintage, but nothing bad. This cool vintage instrument will be sure to make it’s next owner happy for years to come! No case, but will be packed for safe shipping.
