There is a real need for an affordable yet durable and good sounding hammered dulcimer. Many, many folks would like to try the hammered dulcimer, but don’t want to commit a lot of money on something they don’t know will work for them. Or they want a really nice gift for a musical relative or friend. Our 13/12 Chickadee fills that need very well. We’ve learned that small dulcimers can easily produce a beautiful, clear ringing tone over a larger dulcimer. This 13/12 Chickadee model exemplifies that. And we believe it is the perfect introduction to the wonderful world of the hammered dulcimer. We are currently the only American builder selling a hammered dulcimer this size. And despite its small size, it doesn’t have many limitations in musical repertoire. The small size also means it is quicker to tune, which beginners can appreciate. The Chickadee is coated with black paint that most people agree makes it much easier to see the strings. The Chickadee is made out of Poplar ply, so it is stiff and stable. It is also large enough in all dimensions to properly stretch the strings for good tone, and have enough volume in the box for resonance. The Chickadee will hold her own in jam sessions; her bright tone rings out well in a noisy environment.
